Healthy Apple Crumble

Low sugar, no flower, no dairy version, and no gluten version… but tastes awesome

Step 1 Prepare Apple Filling

  1. Cut 6-8 apples (ideally low sugar & low acid) into small pieces
  2. Add orange skin zest shavings
  3. Add orange cut into small pieces for acid
  4. Add 1-2 table spoons of brown sugar
  5. Add cinnamon to taste
  6. Mix thoroughly
  7. Leave it in fridge for min half day to soften up apples
  8. Mix it couple times while in the fridge and just before baking (below)

Step 2 Prepare crust & crumble

  1. Wash and soak 1 cup of walnuts or pecans in room temperature water for min 30 mins
  2. Mix ½ cup of pure coco powder in a mixer
  3. Add ½ cup of pure oatmeal (especially if you want no gluten) to the mixer
  4. Add 2-3 table spoons of butter or margarine (no dairy version)
  5. Add ½ tea spoon of salt
  6. Use chopper or blender to cut nuts into fine pieces (about the size of oats) and add to the mixer
  7. Optional: Separate the final mix into 70% / 30% split. Add more butter to the 70% to use as crust and use the other 30% as a type of crumble.

Step 3 Baking

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees (not 350)
  2. Ideally use a glass baking frame (don’t butter sides)
  3. Layer the mix then apples then top layer mix again
  4. Slow-bake covered with tin foil (to keep moisture) for 1 hr … more if you want apples to be even softer

Serving Options
